Welcome to the second edition of The Wardrobe Report! This is a monthly post with a breakdown of all the pieces I added to my closet in the past month. It includes items I’ve bought as well as items I’ve been gifted from brands. I break down fit and sizing with a few styling tips here and there. And, as always, I want to remind you that shopping for clothes and trying new pieces from a few select brands is part of my job. As a result, I add more pieces to my closet than most people. You do not need everything here! But maybe, you’ll find one or two pieces that you might be interested in trying out.
I added seventeen items to my wardrobe in March! That seems like a lot, but I had a few campaigns last month as well as some gifted pieces from brands that I LOVE. The beginning of spring and the beginning of fall are typically the busiest months for my business in terms of brand partnerships. As we make our way through spring and into summer, I will not be adding to my closet at the level I am now! This was a good mix of small brands and more well known brands. Plus, I have some new pieces I got in from Aritzia and Sézane that haven’t made their way on to the blog yet so you’re seeing them here first.
Here’s a video talking through each piece if you prefer that format.
Ozma Lou Tee*
I was actually wearing this tee in the video of my last Wardrobe Report, and I got a few questions about it. This is the laid back California cool version of a t-shirt. It’s from the brand Ozma which is based out of California, and who I first heard about from one of my favorite style muses, Natalie Borton. This tee is made from raw silk which kind of feels like a linen/cotton blend. It has a cropped fit but doesn’t show any midriff with my high waisted bottoms. I sized up in this for a more relaxed (and longer) fit. I’m wearing the Small here.
Ozma Shore Pant*
These new pants are sliding into the spot on my wishlist for cream cotton pants. They have a very relaxed and baggy fit with a drawstring waist and cargo style pocket on the side. They are made from a cotton/TENCEL blend and have a structured yet soft fit. These feel very casual and cool, and I think they will look really nice with a tee/tank and flip flops when the weather warms up. I would say these run quite big. I took my true size, XS, and I’ve got room to spare.
Sézane Rosaline Jacket*
I’m excited to add this waistcoat top to my wardrobe. For someone who has all the basics covered, I’m ready to add some items that are little bit more fashiony. This one already sold out on Sézane’s website, but I’ll keep an eye out for a restock. This one from Dissh look very similar. As we get closer to tank top weather, I plan to do a post with outfit ideas for waistcoats so look for that. This one runs true to size; I have the 2.
Sézane Jenson Trouser*
A year ago, I would have never thought to add a pair of rust colored pinstripe trousers to my wardrobe, but times they are a-changin’. I was first eyeing a vest top in this same print but then spotted the pants. They are so different than anything else I own, but I’ve actually found them very easy to style. Here’s the Insta Post where I styled the look for spring. It might be one of my favorite outfits I’ve ever put together. For now, while the weather is still cold, I’ve styled these pants with a suede jacket and sweater and with an oversized button down (see Thursday’s look.) These pants definitely give a 70s retro vibe (love!). They are super high waisted with no pockets and a zipper on the side. They are cropped on the model on the website but are full length on me. I would size up; Sézane bottoms run small.
Sézane Matilda Ballerinas
I’m calling it; these are going to be my most worn spring shoe. These are a python print ballet flat. I love that the toe is somewhat pointed; rounded toe ballet flats don’t do my short legs any favors. These really up the style factor of my more minimal outfits. They come in a leopard print as well (which I almost purchased), but I think the python print is a little different and cool and not something that everyone has. Sézane shoe sizing is so weird so definitely check the sizing chart to get the proper size (they recently updated their sizing.) I originally ordered the 6 but had to exchange for the 5 (I’m a 6.5 in American sizing.)
Tejido Fisher Puff Sweater*
I forgot to include this one in the video, but it’s not to be skipped! This is one of those sweaters that you’ll have forever. Tejido is a small brand out of Carmel by the Sea in California. The word Tejido means fabric in Spanish. They source their handmade knits from artisans in Peru and Mexico using natural fibers and low impact dyes. Outside of not shopping at all, I don’t think you can get more sustainable than this. See it styled here.
Mint Velvet Black Ultimate Cotton T-Shirt*
The next five items are from my recent partnership with Mint Velvet, a brand based out of the UK. I did a blog post styling these pieces and breaking down each one so I’ll keep this section short. The first item is this super well made cotton tee. It’s a thick cotton that almost feels like a top and not a t-shirt. I also really like the longer sleeve length which makes it look more dressy than your average tee. I’ve worn this SO many times since I received it a couple weeks ago. It comes in a few different color options, and it would be a great tee for the office. I recommend sizing up in all these clothing items from Mint Velvet.
Mint Velvet White Linen Blend Tailored Shorts*
These linen blend shorts are SO chic! I love the longer inseam on these which would also be a great option for work if you live in a hot climate. These shorts are also lined, but you can’t see the lining which is a big pet peeve of mine when it comes to white shorts. I would size up in these!
Mint Velvet Gray Cotton Blend Cardigan*
This gray cardigan is probably my favorite item from my collaboration with Mint Velvet. I’ve already worn it a few times IRL (see this post!) It has ribbing along the sleeves and hem and lots of buttons down the front. I love being able to style it different ways by playing around with the buttons a bit. I typically wear it with a few buttons undone at the top and bottom for a more effortless look. I sized up to the Small.
Mint Velvet Codi Zebra Print Textured Flat Pumps*
All the heart eyes for the print on these ballet flats. Over the past few years, I’ve discovered the power of a statement shoe, and these make a BIG impact. Plus, the neutral tones can be styled with practically anything. One other feature that I really like is the elongated toe box which extends the line of my legs a bit (I’ll take all the help I can get!) These run big. If you are half size, take the size below.
Mint Velvet Black Leather Woven Tote Bag*
We love a woven bag around here, and I was happy to add a black one to my closet. It’s quite big which I dig, and I’ve been carrying it around when I’m heading to the coffee shop to work as it fits my laptop and everything I could possibly need. The quality is really nice, and it has an interior zippered pocket where I can stash my wallet and keys.
Heaven Mayhem Julia Necklace
This statement necklace has become a big part of my wardrobe in the last month. I’ve been styling my outfits around this necklace! Usually my jewelry is more of an afterthought, the last piece of the outfit puzzle. But not with this one! Anytime I’m wearing a tee shirt, either layered under a blazer or on it’s own, I’ve been wearing this necklace. The rusty red color goes SO GOOD with cream and white, but I also love it black, navy and gray, too.
Heaven Mayhem Mini Knot Earrings
Sorry for not actually wearing these in the picture; I ran out of time! You can see them styled in this look from last week. These earrings are quite the statement, and it took me a few wears to get used to the size. They say ‘mini’ in the name but, for me, they are the largest pair of earrings I own. I’ve been wearing these a few times a week since I purchased them at the beginning of March. They make a big impact on my more basic outfits.
Aritzia Effortless Pant in Crepette*
The next few items were gifted from Aritzia. I was SO excited that the brand reached out because these pants were literally sitting in my cart. I’ve been wanting these pants for YEARS. They come highly recommended, and they didn’t disappoint. They are a really classic wide leg trouser that isn’t too wide. They are also really well made, and come in SO MANY styles and fabrics. There is a pair for any season and any fit in Aritzia’s lineup. I wanted a pair for moderate temperatures so I chose this Crepette material. It is a lightweight crepe fabric which drapes beautifully. For sizing, I went up a size to the 2 since reviews said they run small, and I think that was a good choice. If you have a more narrow waist (relative to your body), you could stay true to size though. These also come in four different inseam options. I went with the ‘Short’ but I probably could have gone with the ‘Shorter’ as I’d say they run a bit long and I want them to just graze the floor with a pair of flats. I plan to have mine hemmed.
Aritzia Abby Blazer*
This is another classic piece I’m so happy to have in my closet. I think a light sandy colored blazer is a spring/summer staple, and it was one color I did not have in my blazer collection. The fit is just perfect for me - a little boxy but not too much. It is also made of that same crepe material which gives it a nice drape. I think this one could easily be dressed up for date night, too. I actually wore this one last week (see here), and it was probably my favorite outfit of the week.
Aritzia Cozy Sweatfleece Boyfriend Crew Sweatshirt*
This sweatshirt is the softest thing I’ve ever put on my body. It’s so warm and cozy, I want to wear it 24/7, but I limited myself to two outfits last week. I own a wide range of sweatshirts from affordable options from H&M and Gap to really nice quality options from Sézane, and I can say that this one falls right up there with my Sézane ones. You can just tell it’s going to last. I sized up to the Small because I wanted it to fit big and cozy. You could also stay true to size, and it would still have an oversized fit to it.
Aritzia Resolute Dress*
This dress is the CUTEST! I don’t own anything like it, and I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it’s just darling. The dress is a polo style with a collar and buttons at the neckline, and it has this very wide a-line cut that has some swing to it. It feels almost like a really nice athletic material. I can’t wait to wear it IRL! I took my true size, XS.
*Items marked with an asterisk were gifted.
That’s it for this month’s Wardrobe Report! There are SO many good spring finds here with a good mix of wardrobe staples and ‘fun’ pieces. I just want it be in the 60s so I can wear them! If you have any questions on sizing or fit, feel free to leave them in the comments.
All the best, Ashley
Love this format as I’ve taken a break from IG which is so good for me - yet I find myself missing my favorite style muses 🥰 that give me so much inspiration ❤️
I love this post idea, and that you included a video!
